My Two Johnny Cash Stories by Billy Don Burns

Billy Don says his proudest moment was when his hero Johnny Cash sent him this note when Billy hit the #1 position in the Gavin Americana with Desperate Men.

A few years ago, I was somewhere between Guangzhou China and theVietnam border. I was in a village where no one spoke English & a crowd
gathered gathered to look at this very strange person (me), I was trying to
tell them where I was from vocally and with hand gestures. I was acting like
I was playing the guitar & saying things like "Nashville", "Grand Ole Opry"
and "Country Music". No one was understanding me when suddenly this
small Chinese man, grinning broadly, pointed at me & said, "Johnny Cash!
Johnny Cash!" Suddenly all these Chinese folks were pointing at me
saying, "Johnny Cash! Johnny Cash!" I don't know if they thought I was
Johnny Cash or if they were just glad we made a connection. Johnny Cash
was always the #1 music man in my book and this confirmed it for me.
When I went from #2 to #1 in the Gavin Americana Chart with the album
Desperate Men, taking the position that Johnny had held for several
weeks, he faxed me this note. The original note hangs on the wall in my
house & is my most prized accolade.

Congratulations!
You deserve it. I'll
be happy to move out
of #1 spot and let
you have it. I been there, done that.
